Explaining My Event

We have been learning to write an explanation. I have written one about an event that I made up. Here it is.

Basketball hoop is an made up game. It was made up by Damien Puri  in Auckland in 2014. How you win is by stepping with the ball and dribbling the ball and shooting it in the goal.

You will need a basketball hoop and a basketball to play. They are going to play at the Point England School hall. The hall is a basketball sized court made from wood.

The team is made up of 10 players. There are 3 defence, 3 attack and 4 mids who defend and attack. The rules are no fouling that means you cannot slap the ball out of someone elses’ hands. If the ball goes out of the court then it is the other teams ball. The ref does an throw up to start the game and an player from each team smacks the ball towards their own team.

Wild and Wacky

I have been reading about a man called Fraser Williamson who draws pictures for magazines and School Journals. We had to choose an part of the picture to describe. I picked the lion in the corner. This is my sentence, A lion with wings that looks like a spider with lots of eyes.

Commonwealth Report

We have been learning to write reports. I have written one about a Commonwealth Sport. Here is my one about Ruby Sevens.

Rugby Sevens

What is Rugby 7’s?
Rugby Sevens is a game like rugby league that only has seven people in each team. Two teams verse each other to score the most tries in 14 minutes.

How to play 7’s
Too play rugby 7’s you need to kick the ball to the other team. Then when they have the ball you need to tackle them to get the ball back. Next you go for a try which gets you points.

How do you win Rugby 7’s?
To win Rugby Sevens you need to score as many tries as you can until the time is up. When you have scored a try you can get more points by doing an dropkick over the goal. The team with the most points wins.

Culture Dictogloss

WHAT IS CULTURE

Culture makes  different country’s  special. They also speak different languages, songs, eat different food and wear different clothes. My culture is Cook Island Maori. We eat a special Cook Island donuts.

Different countries have different cultures. In Japan the old people dress in kimono’s, put flowers in vases and they have tea.

My culture does cook island dancing and we eat poke and we eat meat.

Making The Team

For reading my group read a book called Making the Team. It is about a girl called Ruby that didn't make it into the team because she wasn't fit enough.
This is my advice column to help her get fitter. She wrote me a letter to ask for my help.

Fast feet

In the story Fast Feet a boy named Esela was the fastest 8 year old in the school. Then his friend Solomona told him to get labelled sport shoes because it would make him fast. But the author was showing us that the labelled shoes won’t make you faster.

World War 2

Screenshot 2014-08-04 at 2.40.07 PM.pngThe countries fighting in World War 2 were Germany, Italy and Japan verses Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, India, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States, USSR, Yugoslavia and others.

This morning we had assembled at our school to remember who died in World War 1. We had it because it happened 100 hundred years ago. At assembly we had to watch videos about World War 1 while Mr Burt talked about what happened. We watched the flag go up half way and watched it go back down.
